A large village which needed another well

14th February 2018 by mark

This large village is called Yambassi

Yambassi is a large village in the Boulgou province of Burkina Faso, about 180 km towards the south east from Ouagadougou. There are about 4,500 people living here. Like many villages in Burkina Faso, it is very spread out. Also like many villages here, it is very dry. Especially at this time of the year. We understand some of the people here had to walk to another village 6km away to use a pump.

Our friend Boureima told us about the situation

Myra’s Wells heard about this village last June. We have a number of friends in Burkina Faso and hear about many places where water is scarce.  Each of these places needs a well. But we don’t have enough money to provide all the wells that are needed. However, Yambassi stood out as very needy indeed. A generous supporter agreed with us and asked us to use his money to drill a well there.

The drilling team arrived!

It was 19th December 2017. The drillers arrived and set up their equipment. And a few hours later, there was a new borehole with clean water flowing freely. The borehole was 56 metres deep. Sometimes we have to drill much deeper. But the water flow measured 5000 litres per hour. That is an excellent supply.

Here is the result.

This is a picture of the village chief. He was very happy to have the new well. So are the people who are using the well. It is saving them a very long walk.

And the cattle are pleased with it too, although they might not be able to say so.

Thank you

Some of our friends in Ouagadougou went to Yambassi last Sunday to conduct the usual “well blessing”. This is an open air service to ask God to bless the well and to tell the village about the love of Jesus. It is also an opportunity to talk to them about the importance of using the water for washing themselves and their clothes.

After the well blessing, they showed how much it means to them in the traditional way! Here is the goat which the village presented Christine. It looks much less happy with the situation than the people are.

Yambassi is just one large village amongst many that need wells.

This is not the last large village that we will hear about. Each one will need a well. Even it they have one already, most need another one. To help us fulfil as much of the need as we can, please take a look at our How to Donate page. We guarantee 100% of donations is used to provide wells. The Trustees personally fund all other expenses.

Who are we?

Our charity provides life-saving water wells in Burkina Faso – one of the poorest countries in West Africa. A few places do have mains water, but even that supply lacks purity.
100% of donations received go to pay for wells. The Trustees in the UK and Burkina Faso receive no remuneration for their work. The salaries of the two administrative staff employed in Burkina Faso are paid by the UK Trustees, or using funds specifically donated for this purpose.
