Ypala means “new area”. Zimidin Ypala is a new area just outside the original village of Zimidin.
This is an extract from our Diary of the visit to Zimidin in January 2024:
A man on a motorcycle led us to the “Ypala” (meaning “new area”) part of the village past the village school – about 1.5 km. In this part of the village, there is no water. There are about 70 families and at least 100 children (a small number for 70 families) who attend the school in the main part of the village.
We spoke to a lady and asked how her life would improve if she had a well in the middle of the new part. She said, “If we can get water it would help us to be clean and will help us with our animals. We will be able to grow vegetables. We will not have to walk so far and will be less tired”
The tomatoes that they grow now are sent to Ouagadougou and then on to Togo and Ghana. Having water on hand would enable them to grow vegetables all year round, not just straight after the rainy season.
We left 1:30 pm and returned to Ouagadougou at about 3:30 pm. At the end of the visit, we asked Christine to arrange to drill here.
Here is the new well now being used.
