The need
Pissila is a place north-east of Kaya in Burkina Faso. It is a place where the security situation makes it potentially dangerous to go. However, there are many “Internally Displaced Persons” there. They have left the even more dangerous places further north and have congregated here. The population has probably doubled in the last two years or so.
The strain on the existing water supplies
In this area of Burkina Faso, the water supply is already stretched. So the arrival of a whole new village had made things even worse. There was a government provided water tanker that arrived sometimes, but with such large numbers of people wanting to have water, the queue was enormous.
Some of the ladies were forced to go to a nearby lake and take water from there. This lake is very dirty – and nearly dry in early January.
The request
The pastor there contacted Myra’s Wells. After the usual due diligence, it was clear that this was, perhaps, the most needy place we had seen for a long time. We are very pleased that God blessed us with a very good borehole at the first attempt.
The crowd that gathered to watch the drilling shows just how much the people needed the well.
The queues are still long – but certainly a lot shorter than they used to be. Maybe another well would be a good idea as well. We will have to see how the funds work out.
