Allow us to show you the benefit of a well at Dapelgo in Burkina Faso which Myra’s Wells provided 2 years ago.
The road to the north is quiet as it stretches towards Mali. It is an area where few people want to go nowadays. 3 of the 4 toll booths on the road are now closed. Even the authorities seem less interested in this area. Eddie and Karen took this road to see a well at Dapelgo in Burkina Faso which Myra’s Wells provided 2 years ago.
But the village is not on the “main” road!
After an hour they turned off the “main” road onto a dirt “road” and drove for another hour. Suddenly, a school appeared. It is a secondary school and has four classrooms, but only one is being used. This is where the well is. Dapelgo is one of several small villages around the well. The only well near here before was a broken one. It can not be repaired. Without a well, the schools cannot operate. The government will not grant permission. Now the school has started to teach children. Secondary level education is by no means universally available in Burkina Faso. The children of these villages will have the chance to benefit as the school opens more classes. In addition, the people from the nearby villages can also use the well.
The people of the villages show their appreciation.
When Eddie and Karen arrived, a there was reception committee waiting to express their real gratitude for the well. The host introduced them to the school staff, some pastors of local churches and a group of men representing the villages. As a thank you, the people gave Eddie two shirts and they gave Karen a dress.
Here is the well.
The speeches finished. Now it is a short walk to the well. A lot of happy people accompany them, including a group of boys and girls from the school.
It is time to demonstrate the pump!
There is still water to carry back to the villages, of course. But it is so much better than it was. This lady must be collecting water for some of her friends as well.
We are so pleased to see the benefits of the well at Dapelgo in Burkina Faso which Myra’s Wells provided 2 years ago.
What next?
Many more are still needed – perhaps as many as 7500. But we will continue to provide what we can while God allows us to. Every penny that is donated to Myra’s Wells will be used to provide clean water. All other expenses will be paid by trustees.
